Head of Accounts

• Philomath University invites applications from qualified, competent and detail-oriented professionals for the position of Head of Accounts.

• The successful candidate will oversee the University’s accounting operations, ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain effective internal controls and support sound financial decision-making.



Key Responsibilities



• ⁠Oversee the University’s daily accounting operations and financial transactions.

• ⁠Prepare, review and maintain accurate financial statements, reports and accounting records.

• ⁠Monitor income, expenditure and budget performance.

• ⁠Ensure timely bank reconciliations and proper documentation of financial transactions.

• ⁠Maintain effective internal controls and support compliance with applicable financial and statutory requirements.

• ⁠Coordinate internal and external audits and ensure proper financial record-keeping.

• ⁠Supervise the Accounts Unit and provide periodic financial reports to Management.



Qualifications and Requirements



• ⁠Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline from a recognised institution.

• ⁠Minimum of five 5 years’ relevant accounting experience, preferably with supervisory responsibilities.

• ⁠ICAN or ACCA qualification is an added advantage.

• ⁠Sound knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting and bank reconciliation.

• ⁠Working knowledge of Nigerian tax laws and statutory financial reporting requirements.

• ⁠Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting software.

• ⁠Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills.

• ⁠High standards of integrity, accountability, confidentiality and attention to detail.

• ⁠Good communication and interpersonal skills.
