Job Description
Khadasha Innovations Africa is recruiting an experienced and commercially aware Head of Accounting for our partner, a fast-growing property development company in Lagos.
The successful candidate will lead the company’s accounting and financial-reporting function. The role will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing management accounts, strengthening financial controls, coordinating budgeting and financial planning, managing cash flow, ensuring statutory compliance and providing management with reliable financial information for decision-making.
This is a hands-on leadership role for a technically strong Chartered Accountant who can establish robust financial processes and controls that support a growing organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting and Financial Reporting
• Lead the company’s accounting function.
• Ensure the accurate and timely recording of financial transactions.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports.
• Produce accurate and timely management accounts.
• Maintain the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers.
• Review account reconciliations and supporting schedules.
• Ensure financial records are complete, accurate and properly maintained.
• Provide management with timely and reliable financial information.
Financial Controls
• Establish and maintain effective financial controls across revenue, collections, purchases, expenses, payments, approvals, payroll, bank transactions, receivables and payables.
• Maintain appropriate controls over company funds and property-related transactions.
• Identify control weaknesses and implement corrective measures.
• Ensure proper segregation of financial responsibilities.
Budgeting and Financial Planning
• Coordinate the annual budgeting process.
• Prepare departmental and project budgets.
• Monitor actual financial performance against approved budgets.
• Investigate and explain significant variances.
• Support financial forecasting and cash-flow planning.
• Recommend cost-control and financial-efficiency measures.
Cash-Flow and Treasury Management
• Monitor the company’s cash position and liquidity requirements.
• Prepare regular cash-flow forecasts.
• Ensure adequate funding for operational and project requirements.
• Monitor collections, outstanding receivables and payment schedules.
• Maintain appropriate controls over cash and banking transactions.
Receivables, Payables and Revenue
• Oversee customer receivables, collections and account records.
• Prepare and review receivables ageing reports.
• Work with the sales team to reconcile property transactions and customer payments.
• Identify collection risks and recommend appropriate action.
• Oversee supplier and vendor accounts.
• Review invoices and supporting documentation.
• Ensure payments are properly authorised, classified and recorded.
• Identify opportunities for expenditure control and cost optimisation.
Tax, Statutory Compliance and Audit
• Ensure compliance with corporate tax, VAT, withholding tax, PAYE, pension and other applicable obligations.
• Coordinate statutory filings and payments.
• Liaise with external tax advisers, auditors and relevant regulatory bodies.
• Coordinate internal and external audit activities.
• Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation.
• Respond to audit queries and implement audit recommendations.
Accounting Systems and Process Development
• Develop and improve accounting policies and procedures.
• Strengthen approval, payment and reconciliation processes.
• Maintain an appropriate chart of accounts.
• Improve budgeting, forecasting and financial-reporting templates.
• Implement appropriate accounting systems and management dashboards.
• Build processes that can support the company’s continued growth.
Management Reporting and Leadership
• Provide the CEO and management team with financial insights covering revenue, expenses, profitability, cash flow, receivables, payables, budgets, projects and financial risks.
• Translate financial information into practical business recommendations.
• Lead, supervise and develop the accounting team.
• Establish clear responsibilities, performance expectations and accountability standards.
• Review team performance and build internal accounting capacity.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• Must be a Chartered Accountant with an ACA qualification.
• Seven to ten years of progressive accounting or finance experience.
• Previous experience leading an accounting or finance function.
• Strong experience preparing financial reports and management accounts.
• Demonstrable experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management and financial controls.
• Experience managing statutory compliance and external audits.
• Real estate, construction or property development experience is strongly preferred.
• Experience working in a growing organisation is an advantage.
• Strong analytical, leadership and communication skills.
• High level of integrity, discretion and accountability.
