Job Description
Head of Accounting
Fully remote · Full-time · Paid in USD
Why this role
You are the most senior accounting person in the business. The integrity of the financial statements, the discipline of the close, the strength of the control environment, and readiness for audit all sit with you.
Where a client has outgrown the processes that carried it this far — a revenue schedule maintained outside the ledger, a close held together by one person's memory, controls that exist in policy but not in practice — you're the person who rebuilds them. You'll work in lean, high-trust environments where your judgment directly supports growth, partnering with US Controllers, CFOs, and founders rather than reporting into a back office.
This is not offshore execution. You're embedded inside a US finance team, owning the function end to end.
The role
You own the accounting function for a US-based IT SaaS company: the close under US GAAP, the financial statements, revenue recognition, the control environment, the audit, the systems, and the team.
What you'll own
• The close. Month-end, quarter-end, and annual close under US GAAP, accountable for the calendar, output quality, and cycle time.
• The financial statements. P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow — and standing behind them with leadership and auditors.
• Revenue. ASC 606 recognition, the schedules, the deferred revenue roll-forward, ARR reporting, and the judgements behind them.
• The ledger and the balance sheet. GL integrity, with reconciling items driven to resolution rather than reported.
• Controls and policy. Accounting policies, internal controls, approval workflows, close checklists, process narratives, and the SOPs that let the function run without depending on any one person.
• Audit and tax. The annual audit or review end to end — auditor management, PBC preparation, resolution of findings — plus US tax coordination with external CPA firms.
• Consolidation and reporting. Multi-entity accounting, intercompany, and foreign currency translation where applicable, and the reporting packages, variance analysis, and KPI reporting that leadership, boards, and investors rely on.
• The team and the systems. Lead and develop accounting staff, manage outsourced bookkeeping partners to agreed standards, and lead ERP selection, implementation, and migration alongside AP, expense, and close automation.
What we're looking for
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience with deep US GAAP command, including leadership of accounting staff
• Independent ownership of the close and the financial statements — yours, not a contribution to someone else's
• Genuine depth in revenue recognition (ASC 606), deferred revenue, and recurring-revenue mechanics
• Experience leading an audit or review, managing external auditors through to resolution of findings
• A track record of building accounting processes and controls from the ground up, or rebuilding underperforming ones
• Substantial ERP experience (NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, or equivalent)
• Excellent English, with the confidence to hold the room in a leadership or audit setting
Nice to have
• CPA, CA, ACCA, CMA, or equivalent professional qualification
• SaaS or IT services background
• ASC 842 and ASC 718
• Multi-entity accounting and consolidation
• Big 4 or comparable public accounting, followed by industry
• Venture-backed or PE-backed US company experience
• Familiarity with Ramp, Brex, Bill.com, or FloQast
• ERP migration or close-automation experience
Who this is for
You're comfortable being the final word on an accounting question and comfortable saying when the answer needs more work. You'd rather build the infrastructure than maintain someone else's. You spot the process that's about to break before it does, raise it early, and arrive with a plan.
