Job Description
We are seeking a highly experienced, technically strong, and results-oriented Senior Structural Engineer / Project Manager to lead structural engineering activities and provide project management oversight across major construction and property development projects.
The successful candidate will combine advanced structural engineering expertise with strong project leadership capabilities, overseeing projects from design and planning through construction, testing, completion, and handover.
The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in structural design, site engineering, construction supervision, contractor management, project scheduling, cost control, quality assurance, and multidisciplinary coordination.
Candidates with 15+ years of professional experience and a proven track record of delivering large-scale construction projects will be strongly preferred.
Key ResponsibilitiesStructural Engineering
• Lead the structural design and engineering aspects of major construction projects.
• Review and approve structural designs, calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
• Design and analyse reinforced concrete, steel, masonry, and other structural systems as required.
• Review structural models and calculations to ensure structural integrity, safety, serviceability, and compliance with applicable standards.
• Coordinate structural designs with architectural, mechanical, electrical, civil, and other engineering disciplines.
• Review structural shop drawings, reinforcement details, fabrication drawings, and contractor technical submissions.
• Identify structural design conflicts and develop practical engineering solutions.
• Provide technical guidance to Structural Engineers, Site Engineers, consultants, contractors, and project teams.
• Ensure structural designs comply with applicable Nigerian regulations, project specifications, and recognised international standards.
• Participate in value engineering and recommend technically sound and cost-effective structural solutions.
Project Management
• Take overall responsibility for coordinating assigned projects from inception through completion and handover.
• Develop and monitor project execution plans, programmes, milestones, and deliverables.
• Coordinate Architects, Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, Consultants, Contractors, Subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.
• Monitor project progress against approved schedules, budgets, specifications, and quality requirements.
• Identify project risks and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
• Ensure timely resolution of technical, commercial, construction, and operational challenges.
• Lead project coordination and technical meetings.
• Prepare regular project progress reports for senior management.
• Ensure effective communication between design teams, site teams, contractors, and management.
Construction Supervision
• Provide senior technical oversight of structural construction activities.
• Conduct regular site inspections and ensure construction works comply with approved structural drawings and specifications.
• Monitor foundations, reinforcement, formwork, concrete works, steel structures, blockwork, and other structural elements.
• Review concrete mix designs, reinforcement schedules, test results, and material specifications.
• Ensure proper implementation of approved construction methodologies.
• Monitor contractors' workmanship and ensure defects are identified and corrected promptly.
• Coordinate structural inspections, testing, snagging, and project handover activities.
• Investigate structural and construction-related problems and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
Cost & Commercial Management
• Work closely with the Quantity Surveyor and Finance/Projects team to monitor project costs.
• Review structural design solutions with consideration for construction costs and project budgets.
• Support value engineering and cost optimisation initiatives.
• Review contractor variations and technical implications of proposed changes.
• Identify potential cost overruns arising from design changes, construction issues, or delays.
• Provide technical input into tender evaluations, contractor selection, and procurement decisions.
Quality & Compliance
• Ensure structural works meet approved designs, specifications, quality standards, and contractual requirements.
• Establish and monitor quality-control procedures for structural works.
• Review material testing and laboratory reports.
• Ensure appropriate inspection and testing plans are implemented.
• Monitor compliance with applicable building codes, engineering standards, and health and safety requirements.
• Ensure all structural documentation is properly maintained and controlled.
Health, Safety & Risk Management
• Promote a strong health and safety culture across project sites.
• Ensure structural construction activities are carried out in accordance with approved safety procedures.
• Identify technical and construction risks and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
• Participate in risk assessments, method statement reviews, and safety meetings.
• Ensure structural defects or unsafe construction practices are promptly addressed.
Team Leadership
• Lead and mentor Structural Engineers, Site Engineers, technicians, and other technical personnel.
• Provide technical direction and support to project teams.
• Review team performance and ensure delivery against project objectives.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams effectively.
• Promote professional standards, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Master's Degree in Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is an added advantage.
• Minimum of 15 years' professional experience in structural engineering and construction/project management.
• Professional registration with COREN is strongly preferred/required.
• Membership of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) or relevant professional body is an advantage.
• Proven experience in structural design, construction supervision, and project management.
• Demonstrated experience managing large-scale construction projects valued at ₦500 million and above.
• Strong experience with reinforced concrete and steel structures.
• Excellent knowledge of structural analysis and design principles.
• Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, sequencing, and site operations.
• Proficiency in relevant engineering software such as STAAD.Pro, ETABS, SAFE, SAP2000, Tekla, AutoCAD, Revit, or equivalent platforms.
• Strong knowledge of applicable Nigerian and international structural design standards.
• Excellent understanding of project scheduling, cost control, risk management, and contract administration.
• Strong leadership, negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple project priorities.
