Job Description
Role: Project Manager, Rural Electrification Agency Project
Location: Abuja-FCT
Employment Type: Full-Time
Salary Range: NGN 600,000-800,000
Role Overview
The Project Manager will take full ownership of the delivery of our client's REA-funded minigrid projects, from post-award planning through construction, commissioning, and handover to operations. The role requires hands-on experience managing REA/PBG-funded or similarly structured donor/grant projects, and will be the primary point of accountability for scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, and compliance across all active minigrid sites.
Key Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
● Plan, schedule, and manage end-to-end delivery of multiple minigrid sites simultaneously, from mobilisation through construction, testing, commissioning, and energisation.
● Serve as the primary interface with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) on project reporting, milestone verification, grant disbursement conditions, and compliance requirements under the PBG framework.
● Manage EPC contractors, equipment suppliers, and site subcontractors — reviewing work plans, tracking progress against the Bill of Quantities (BOQ), and enforcing quality and safety standards.
● Track project budgets against BOQ and facility/grant drawdowns, flagging cost or schedule variances early and proposing corrective action.
● Coordinate site logistics, permits, land documentation, and community/stakeholder engagement across project locations.
● Prepare and submit progress reports, milestone certificates, and drawdown requests to funders, lenders, and the REA in line with agreed formats and timelines.
● Oversee HSE (health, safety and environment) compliance on all active construction sites.
● Manage handover of completed sites to the operations/technical team, ensuring documentation, as-built drawings, and warranties are complete.
● Identify and escalate project risks (technical, contractual, regulatory, or financial) and drive mitigation plans.
Requirements
● Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Project Management, or a related technical field; a professional project management certification (PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent) is an advantage.
● Minimum of 5 years' project management experience in the power/energy sector, with at least 2 years managing REA-funded, minigrid, or other donor/grant-funded rural electrification projects in Nigeria.
● Demonstrated experience working within the REA Performance-Based Grant (PBG) or similar minigrid programme frameworks, including familiarity with REA reporting, milestone, and disbursement requirements.
● Strong working knowledge of solar hybrid minigrid systems — PV arrays, battery energy storage (BESS), inverters, distribution networks, and smart metering.
● Proven track record managing EPC contractors and multi-site construction programmes, including budget and schedule control.
● Experience liaising with regulators, financiers/lenders, and community stakeholders in rural project settings.
● Willingness and ability to travel frequently to project sites in Kogi State and other rural locations.
