Role Description The Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Banking and Payment, is a full-time remote role responsible for shaping and executing WayaBank’s technology vision across digital banking and payment services. This role oversees development and delivery of secure, scalable platforms for account management, payments, lending, POS, and agency banking, ensuring systems are reliable and easy to use for customers nationwide.

The CTO leads engineering and product technology teams, defines technical architecture, and aligns IT strategy with business goals, working closely with executive leadership and cross-functional stakeholders. Day-to-day activities include guiding software development, prioritizing technology initiatives, managing projects and roadmaps, ensuring compliance and security standards, and driving innovation in banking and payments. The CTO also mentors technical leaders, builds high-performing distributed teams, and fosters a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Hybrid - Twice a week in the office ( Lekki Lagos)

Qualifications

• Strong background in Software Development, including experience building secure, scalable, and high-availability banking or payment systems.

• Proven expertise in IT Strategy and Architecture, with the ability to design modern, cloud-based, API-driven platforms and align technology with business objectives.

• Demonstrated experience in Product Development for digital financial services, collaborating with product, compliance, and operations to deliver customer-centric solutions.

• Advanced Project Management skills, including leading complex, multi-team initiatives, managing timelines and budgets, and delivering technology projects in an agile environment.

• Extensive leadership experience overseeing engineering or technology teams, ideally within fintech, banking, or payments, with a track record of building and scaling remote or distributed teams.

• Deep understanding of digital banking, payment processing, POS and agency banking, security, and regulatory requirements in Nigeria or similar markets.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at executive level and collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
