Purpose of the Role
• The Chief Security Officer [CSO] is responsible for developing and executing the company’s security strategy. This includes physical security of plants and depots, logistics and fleet security, executive protection, investigations, intelligence, and cyber/IT security governance.
• The Chief Security Officer partners with Operations, CISCO, and HR to minimize risk and enable safe, uninterrupted business operations.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Security Strategy & Governance:
• Develop and implement an enterprise-wide security policy and framework aligned to ISO 27001, ISO 22301, and industry best practices.
• Define security KPIs, risk appetite, and reporting cadence for Exco and the Board.
• Manage the annual security budget and resource allocation.
Physical & Perimeter Security:
• Oversee security operations at all plants, depots, micro-hubs, and offices.
• Ensure effective access control, CCTV, alarm systems, and guarding services.
• Conduct regular security audits, risk assessments, and vulnerability tests.
Intelligence & Incident Management:
• Establish threat intelligence gathering on host communities, political, and criminal risks.
• Lead incident response, crisis management, and business continuity protocols.
• Conduct investigations into theft, fraud, sabotage, and workplace violence.
Cybersecurity Oversight:
• Partner with CTO to define cybersecurity policies, data protection, and IT risk controls.
• Oversee penetration testing, employee awareness training, and incident response for cyber events.
• Ensure compliance with NDPR and other data protection regulations.
Regulatory & Community Compliance:
• Liaise with Police, DSS, NSCDC, military units, and local security networks.
• Ensure compliance with Nigeria’s security regulations and host community agreements.
• Advise Corporate Affairs on security aspects of community engagement.
People & Culture:
• Build and lead a high-performing security team across regions.
• Deliver security awareness and safety training for staff and contractors.
• Foster a culture of vigilance, reporting, and accountability.
Logistics & Fleet Security:
• Design and monitor security protocols for product transportation, including convoy management, route risk analysis, and tracking systems.
• Coordinate with Operations and 3PLs to prevent hijacking, pilferage, and route disruptions.
Qualifications, Experience & Competencies
• Bachelor’s Degree in Security Management, Criminology, Law Enforcement, Engineering, or related field.
• Master’s/MBA is an advantage.
• 12-15 years’ experience in corporate security, military, police, or intelligence, with 5+ years in a national leadership role.
• Experience in oil & gas, logistics, or critical infrastructure security in Nigeria.
• Strong knowledge of physical security systems, investigations, and risk management.
Key Skills & Abilities:

• Strong leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Analytical skills for threat assessment and incident investigation.
• Familiarity with security technologies: CCTV, access control, GPS tracking, SIEM.
• Knowledge of Nigerian security landscape, laws, and regulatory bodies.
• High integrity, discretion, and ability to handle sensitive information.
