Role Purpose

The Team Lead, Financial Accounting is responsible for leading the day-to-day financial accounting operations within a fast-paced technology company. This role ensures accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across all accounting functions while supporting strategic decision-making with timely and reliable financial data. The ideal candidate brings deep technical accounting knowledge, strong leadership skills, and the ability to thrive in an agile, tech-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Compliance

• Lead the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in line with IFRS/GAAP standards.

• Ensure full compliance with relevant tax regulations, financial reporting frameworks, and internal controls.

• Coordinate and support external and internal audit processes, ensuring timely responses to audit queries.

• Maintain the integrity of the general ledger, chart of accounts, and financial records.

Team Leadership & Development

• Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of financial accountants, fostering a high-performance culture.

• Assign tasks, set priorities, review work outputs, and ensure the team meets deadlines consistently.

• Conduct regular performance reviews, identify skill gaps, and drive continuous professional development.

• Create a collaborative environment that aligns with the company's values and growth objectives.

Accounts Management

• Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring accuracy and timely processing.

• Manage intercompany reconciliations, bank reconciliations, and balance sheet substantiation.

• Monitor and manage cash flow, flagging variances and escalating concerns to senior management.

• Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll journals, accruals, and prepayments.

Systems & Process Improvement

• Drive adoption and optimisation of ERP/accounting systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks, Xero, or NetSuite).

• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of financial operations.

• Partner with IT and product teams to automate repetitive accounting tasks and improve data flow.

• Support the integration of financial systems during mergers, acquisitions, or new product launches.

Budgeting & Financial Analysis

• Support the annual budgeting and forecasting process by providing accurate historical data and analysis.

• Prepare variance analysis reports, providing clear explanations of budget vs. actual performance.

• Provide financial insights and ad hoc analysis to support business decisions and strategic planning.

Requirements

Essential

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

• Professional accounting certification — ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent.

• Minimum of 5 years' progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or team lead role.

• Strong working knowledge of IFRS and/or GAAP financial reporting standards.

• Proficiency in ERP and accounting software (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, QuickBooks, or similar).

• Advanced Excel skills including financial modelling, pivot tables, and data analysis.

Desirable

• Experience working within the technology, SaaS, fintech, or digital services industry.

• Exposure to multi-currency accounting and cross-border transactions.

• Experience with data visualisation and reporting tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau).

Familiarity with agile ways of working and cross-functional collaboration in tech environments
