About the Job
• Support the HSE Manager in strategic planning and execution of HSE programs.
• Stand in for the HSE Manager during absences, ensuring continuity of leadership and decision-making.
• Coordinate with other Assistant HSE Managers to ensure consistent application of safety standards across departments.
• Oversee implementation of Process Safety Management (PSM) systems and ensure alignment with plant operations.
• Lead and validate Risk Assessments, JHA, Permit To Work.
• Ensure effective implementation and auditing of the Permit to Work (PTW) system, including SIMOPS and confined space entry.
• Lead or support root cause investigations using methodologies.
• Coordinate emergency response drills and ensure readiness of emergency systems and teams.
• Review and update Emergency Response Plans (ERP) in line with operational changes.
• Ensure compliance with Nigerian and international HSE regulations (NMDPRA, ISO 45001/14001, etc).
• Monitor and report HSE KPIs, trends, and leading indicators to the HSE Manager.
• Prepare technical reports, audit findings, and regulatory submissions.
• Ensure the Inspection and audit monitoring schedule is duly implemented.
• Oversee the delivery of HSE training
• Promote a proactive safety culture through visible leadership, coaching, and engagement with frontline personnel.
• Mentor HSE Officers/Supervisors and support their professional development.
• Monitor environmental performance, including emissions, effluents, and waste management.
• Ensure compliance with environmental permits and support sustainability initiatives.
• Any other responsibility as may be assigned by the HSE Manager.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Safety Management, or related technical field.
• Minimum of 8 years of HSE experience in oil & gas, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
• NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent is mandatory.
• Advanced certifications such as NEBOSH Process Safety, Oil and Gas, ISO 45001 Lead Auditor, are highly desirable.
• Proven experience in LNG or gas processing plant operations.
• Strong knowledge of process safety, PTW systems, SIMOPS, and emergency response planning.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and HSE management software.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and analytical skills.
• Membership in a recognized professional safety body (e.g., ISPON, COREN) is an advantage.
